Save the Last Chimps of Cameroon
- by: Animal Advocates

The area that is home to one of the last refuges of the critically endangered Nigeria-Cameroon chimpanzees is under threat from deforestation for palm oil plantations, which are a violation to Cameroon laws. Proceeding with palm oil plantations in these forests will set these animals on the course of extinction and cause irreverable damage.
The American-owned SG Sustainable Oils Cameroon PLC (SGSOC) has begun taking communal ancestral land to build a palm oil plantation. One of the corporations is Herakles Farms, a New York-based agri-corporation.
In blatant violation of Cameroonian laws that lay down what is subjected to an environmental impact assessment, Herakles Farms.is steaming ahead with its palm oil plantation in Cameroon that will flatten a forested area nearly eight times larger than Manhattan Island between four protected areas.
The Nigeria-Cameroon chimpanzee is recognised as the most threatened and least distributed of all the common chimpanzee subspecies, and without a dramatic change to human behaviour in the area, there is a likelihood of extinction in the coming decades. Stop the illegal deforestation for pal oil plantations in Cameroon.
