Stop Short Term Rentals in Developments

On behalf of all of our developments located in residential zoned areas, we are coming together to remove any current operation and any future operations of any form of short term/air BnB/vacation type rentals in our residential zoned developments. As you will see from our petition, this is not tied to a specific development, but rather the entire township of Jackson. These types of short term rentals do not have any benefits for our residential area, rather they have a negative impact on the families who currently reside in our area. Considering these types of rentals are a business, if the township is going to allow them at all, then they should be required to be in commercially zoned areas. We, as families, have chosen to live in a residential area in order to feel safe in our own homes and comfortable with our neighbors. Short term rentals bring in strangers and these houses can be rented to anybody with any type of agenda. The renters are unaware of the local ordinances and zoning laws. This is unsettling to us as a community, especially those who have young children. We want to raise our families in a place where we know our neighbors and know the people who are around us. Allowing short term rentals is opening up our neighborhood to people who are here for a vacation and many to party, which is disruptive to our daily lives. Some of the current operations have not only exposed our area and families to many different strangers, but have also disturbed our lives with loud music, fireworks, and people screaming at all hours of the day and night. Renters have even been found wandering through our yards, destructing our properties, littering, and violating numerous aspects of our local ordinances and laws. This is significantly affecting our quality of life and what we are exposing our children to. Many other townships have taken the right steps in making this change for their people. It is time for Jackson Township to do the same by stopping any current operations of short term rentals and any future short term rentals in our residential zoned developments.
