Protect Our Historic Assets

On Monday, December 3rd, The Milligan Stone House located in Memorial Park in Huntington, Indiana was torn down without public notice. Mayor Fetters says he consulted with several groups and organizations, yet neither Huntington Alert or the Huntington County Historical Society were aware that the building was at risk. Additionally, minutes of the City of Huntington Historic Review Board indicate it was also not informed of the impending demolition.

Many in this community have volunteered countless hours on historic preservation efforts and have an expectation of trust in our officials to use the guidance and recommendations of our Historic Review Board when making decisions on historically relevant community assets.

We ask that our City Council set guidelines and utilize the Historic Review Board so that such a historical loss of a city-owned asset never happens again. We urge all Huntington citizens to sign this petition and then contact their city councilpersons and request action. You can find your council district here.
