SAVE THE SWEDISH LYNX 2020

The Swedish Lynx is a red-listed and protected cat species that does not cause any major damage to domestic animals and yet has several county governments and politicians decided on yet another license hunt for Lynx in Sweden starting the first of March 2020 to the 15th April.

It is now clear that 108 Lynx are being killed in 11 counties. Here is the list.

Västra Götaland 6 st, Dalarna 15st, Västmanland 1st, Örebro 7 st, Gävleborg 20 st, Jönköping 2, Kalmar 8 st, Östergötland 4st, Västerbotten 14 st, Västernorrland 8 st, Jämtland 23 st.

The lynx and all other animals and plants interact in a healthy nature. With Lynx in nature, it becomes balance and many other species benefit. The Lynx is a well-established prerequisite for biodiversity in Sweden. Biodiversity is the term used to demonstrate the importance of variation in nature. The more species that exist, the more stable is nature, and a stable nature is our insurance for the future.
For a long time in our history, the lynx has been exposed to very high hunting pressure in Sweden, which has led to them being close to extinction at certain times. The rescue has then been that they become protected and the hunt did slow down, which has had the effect of there recovering.
The genetic variation in lynx in Sweden is also lower than in lynx from for example Finland. 
This may be due to the fact that the Scandinavian lynx population has been relatively isolated from the larger, major populations in the east for a long time.
The mating season for lynx begins at the end of February and continues during the month of March. This is exactly the time when the hunt begins!
It is not allowed to disturb animals during their mating period, according to § 4 of the Species Regulation!
At the time of this cruel hunt, even the yearlings are still dependent on their mother and if the mother animals are shot, the consequences of the hunting will be that the strain will decrease even more, not only by the animals being shot but since some youngsters will lose their mother and therefore will die of starvation.
In accordance with section 24 of the Hunters´ Ordinance, the skins accrue from the hunting of animals are the hunters´ rights holders by law, who in turn may then transfer the skins to another person. 
The shot animals do not accrue to the state but may be retained by the hunters´ means.

This hunt cannot be seen as anything but a pure trophy hunt, with both skins and skulls and something desirable for the hunters to strive for. 
This should not be legal or even possible in Sweden today!
The lynx in Sweden is red-listed because preserving the lynx status is not favorable. 
For the species covered by the Art and Habitats Directive, and to which lynx belongs, the EU Member States are obliged to ensure that conservation status is favorable. Measures that make it more difficult for the lynx population, such as this license hunt means that opportunities for favorable conservation status cannot be implemented.

The Swedish license hunt for the red-listed Lynx must be stopped now!

De Svenska Lodjuren är en rödlistad och skyddad kattdjursart som inte orsakar några större skador på tamdjur och ändå har flertalet länsstyrelser och politiker beslutat om ännu en licensjakt på lodjur i Sverige med början den första Mars 2020 till den 15 April.
Lodjuren och alla andra djur och växter samspelar i en frisk natur. Med lodjur i naturen blir det balans och många andra arter gynnas. Lodjuren är en väl konstaterad förutsättning för biologisk mångfald i Sverige.

Uppdatering. 108 Lodjur ska skjutas i 11 län.

Biologisk mångfald är det begrepp som används för att påvisa betydelsen av variation i naturen. Ju fler arter som finns desto stabilare är naturen, och en stabil natur är vår försäkring för framtiden.
Under lång tid i vår historia har våra lodjur varit utsatta för mycket högt jakttryck i Sverige, vilket har lett till att de under vissa tider varit nära utrotning. Räddningen har då varit att de blivit fridlysta och att jakten avtagit, vilket fått effekten att stammen långsamt återhämtat sig.
Den genetiska variationen hos lodjur i Sverige är dessutom lägre än hos lodjur från tex Finland. Det kan bero på att den skandinaviska lodjursstammen under en lång tid har varit relativt isolerad från de större populationerna i öster.
Parningstiden för lodjur börjar i slutet av februari och pågår under mars månad. Det är precis då licensjakten börjar. Det är inte tillåtet att störa djur under deras parningstid, enligt 4§ i artskyddsförordningen!
Vid tiden för licensjakten är även fjolårsungarna fortfarande beroende av sin mamma... och skjuts moderdjuren blir konsekvenserna av jakten att stammen kommer att minska än mer, än bara genom de djur som skjuts, eftersom en del ungar då förlorar sin mamma och därför kommer att dö av svält.
I enlighet med 24 § i jaktförordningen tillfaller skinnen från licensjakten på lodjur jakträttsinnehavarna, de får sen i sin tur överlåta skinnet till annan person. Att de skjutna djuren inte tillfaller staten utan får behållas av jägarna utgör att denna jakt inte kan ses som något annat än en ren troféjakt, med såväl skinn som kranier som något åtråvärt för jägarna att sträva efter, vilket inte borde vara lagligt eller ens möjligt i Sverige idag.

Lodjuret är rödlistat eftersom bevarande statusen för lodjur inte är gynnsam. För de arter som omfattas av Art- och habitatdirektivet- och dit hör lodjur, gäller att EU:s medlemsstater är skyldiga att se till bevarandestatusen är gynnsam. Åtgärder som försvårar för lodjursstammen, såsom licensjakten, innebär att möjlighet till gynnsam bevarandestatus inte kan genomföras.
