This Corrupt DA Turned Down Chance to Prosecute Harvey Weinstein

Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. has a disturbing history of letting rich and powerful people who donate to his campaign off the hook for serious crimes. According to new reports, Hollywood executive and accused rapist Harvey Weinstein was one of those people.

In 2015, Vance’s office decided not to prosecute Weinstein for the alleged sexual assault of 22-year-old model Ambra Battilana Gutierrez. According to one police source, there was enough evidence to prosecute Weinstein, though the DA’s office claims that was not the case. Soon after Vance’s office decided not to prosecute, Weinstein’s lawyer donated $10,000 to Vance’s reelection campaign.

Since the story first broke, countless more women have spoken out about their horrific experiences with Harvey Weinstein and the toxic culture he created within The Weinstein Company. What’s become clear is how many people were complicit in Weinstein’s reign of terrorizing women in Hollywood.

From staff members who facilitated “meetings” between Weinstein and his victims, to male Hollywood stars who buried earlier media stories about Weinstein’s crimes, to the district attorney who chose not to prosecute Weinstein in exchange for campaign money, there’s no denying that many people were complicit in silencing the women Weinstein harassed and assaulted. This is the epitome of “rape culture.”

We cannot let rich and powerful men get away with abusing women and we cannot tolerate those who stand back and let it happen anymore. Please sign this petition demanding an investigation into Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. now!
