Pass Ponce's Law Today For Better Animal Welfare Protections

At 12:18 am, the morning of April 8 Travis Archer's neighbors heard a noise. A loud constant yelping coming from his house. It sounded like someone, or something was in real pain.

When police finally arrived they found Archer, in the backyard punching Ponce — a black lab puppy — but the yelping had already stopped. Archer had bound Ponce, gagged him and beat him till he was lifeless.

Because of the horrible circumstances of Ponce's short life and death, animal activists all over Florida have rallied state officials to pass Ponce's Law. The law "would make it easier for judges to sentence convicted animal abusers to jail and prevent them from owning an animal, possibly for the rest of their life."

Florida has already made headways in making sure animal abusers don't ever get a chance to abuse again. In several FL counties, animal shelters and others can check animal abuser registries before they adopt out a pet, but if Ponce's Law passes, it will add yet another layer of protection.

Let's tell Florida we are behind their push for more animal protections. Sign the petition and tell Florida representatives to pass Ponce's Law today.
Update #15 years ago
We are thrilled to announce that Gov. Rick Scott has signed Ponce's Law. Law enforcement now has a powerful new tool to fight animal cruelty in Florida.
