Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen told the Senate under oath in May that the Trump administration did not have a policy of separating migrant children from their parents at the border.
However, a memo that's now gone public thanks to the Freedom of Information Act details a few "zero tolerance" immigration strategies, one of which explicitly endorsed pulling families apart as a matter of strategy. That option was signed off on, seemingly by Nielsen herself.
It's bad enough that Nielsen was party to such a cruel policy, but to then blatantly lie about it under oath when she knew it very much was a policy the White House was pursued deserves ramifications.
We call on the Senate Judiciary Committee to look into Nielsen's apparent perjury, and encourage her to be sanctioned accordingly.
