Uphold the Mission of Our Vermont National Guard - a Petition from Vermonters to Governor Scott

  • recipient: Governor Phil Scott, Vermont

** See Special Signing Note at Bottom **

Dear Governor Scott -

Thank you for defending the mission of Vermont's National Guard.

Their dual mission is to protect and assist Vermont communities during local or statewide emergencies, such as storms, fires, pandemic response, or civil disturbances, and to serve as the nation's military reserve, when needed, to be deployed overseas for participation in federal missions.

We oppose the deployment of our VT National Guard to American cities if they have not been expressly requested by that state's leaders. We agree with you that it is unconstitutional.

We oppose at all times the use of our VT National Guard to target civilians or suppress their right to protest. That is illegal.

We oppose the use of our VT National Guard in foreign military actions initiated at the behest of an authoritarian President. That is immoral and a violation of international law.

WE URGE YOU TO UPHOLD THE MISSION OF VERMONT'S NATIONAL GUARD!

Sincerely,

** Special Signing Note  **
