Make Game Loot Boxes illegal

In video game loot boxes are a random chance of getting better equipment for the game you are playing. In other words you don’t know what you will get. It’s a gamble on what you will be awarded. It’s the same as if you went into a casino, you have no idea if you will win or not. If your over the age of 18 then fine it’s not a problem, if your under 18 you and the casino are breaking the law.

The problem is that most of the gamers are under the age of consent, they can’t even have a credit card legally because they cannot be held accountable for their over spending. So why is it that the video gaming industry feel that they are not the same as, a casino or online gambling site? It’s because they don’t see themselves in the same category as those places. Well it’s the one and the same if you offer a service that promotes gambling in any shape or form.

Unfortunately the only way to stop minors from participating in this form of gambling is to ban it altogether from the video game industry. As it stands the video game industry makes multi billions from the sale of their games alone, not only that, they normally only have an approximate working staff of 100 people working on a game at any one time. The cost of producing a video game can go into the 2 million mark, but when they make 2 to 4 billion just on the sale of that game then in my opinion loot boxes are irrelevant, it then just becomes pure profit on the massive profit they have already made.

It’s showing today’s minors that it’s ok to gamble. Some minors are already hooked spending £1000’s on loot boxes. This is not OK! As the money isn’t theirs to spend, and when a complaint is made that their little angel had used their credit card illegally, the normal response it’s their problem not the companies. Sorry video game industry it’s just as much your fault as the parents, if the purchase of loot boxes wasn’t in place, there wouldn’t be a problem in the first place. As for purchasing skins or camo’s for your character or the weapons, I don’t have a problem with that, because they know what they’re getting for their money.

I am calling on every responsible mother, father, auntie and uncle to sign this petition to make in video game loot boxes illegal and the removal of all existing loot boxes that have to be bought with real cash.

Note to the Video Gaming Industry: if you want to keep loot boxes in your games, Make them free or the gamer has to earn in game money using that to purchase your loot boxes. All the time you make the loot boxes purchasable with real money it’s gambling plain and simple.
