Put the Battle of Great Bridge Back in the Virginia Education Standards of Learning

The Virginia State Board of Education's removal of the Battle of Great Bridge from the Standards of Learning is a disservice to our residents and our children. The importance of this battle, one of the first patriot victories of the American Revolution, cannot be overstated. The Battle of Great Bridge secured for the Americans the only land route between the southern colonies and the north, forced the evacuation of the British Royal Governor from Virginia, and demonstrated that American forces could defeat the British... and it happened right here in our back yard! 

We applaud your introduction of House and Senate bills requiring that the Battle of Great Bridge be reinstated to the Virginia Board of Education Standards of Learning. We, the undersigned, support your efforts to ensure that our rich history remains an important part of our heritage and our children's education.
