Protect the public from dangerous products!

Carcinogenic creams, dangerous children's scooters, unsafe lightbulbs, and chainsaws that won't turn off - these are just some of the dodgy products confiscated recently at UK borders and ports. Who are the unsung heroes keeping these dangerous products off our shelves?

Trading standards are the unlikely superheroes - the frontline in protecting us from unsafe and potentially deadly products. Yet, thanks to government cuts, these important teams have lost the equivalent of half their-full time staff since 2009.

Please sign this petition to demand that the government fund an increase of trading standards staff across the UK by 25% by 2019. If enough people sign, it will raise awareness of the importance of trading standards and pressurise the government to reconsider the huge cuts they've made.
The Rt Hon Greg Clark MP, Secretary for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy:

Since 2009, trading standards across the UK has lost the equivalent of half their full-time staff.

Trading standards teams perform vital work protecting the UK from unsafe and potentially lethal products.

To allow them to do so, staffing should be increased by a minimum of 25% by 2019.
