STOP the Unnecessary Development of Dam Site 21

We the undersigned, are concerned citizens who urge our leaders to act now to stop the unnecessary development of DAM SITE 21.

The Mercer County Park Commission is planning the unnecessary development of Dam Site 21 which would consist of offices, maintenance facilities, additional parking lots, active recreation and other programming at the site. The proposed development is unnecessary and already exists at the 2,600 acre Mercer County Park ("MCP") located less than one half mile away. MCP can easily accommodate any new development with its already existing infrastructure, without any additional impact to the surrounding area, and at a fraction of taxpayer dollars. The unspoiled Dam Site 21 has been open to the public as passive open space since the early 1970's and should remain as such for the benefit of the community and its wildlife inhabitants such as Bald Eagles, Owls and other animals.

The meeting this past Thursday night went very well to support the passive recreation plan. Many people attended to voice their concerns. Thanks to everyone who could make it and especially to Hamilton Open Space. We heard from a hydro-engineer who focused on endangered species and the disturbance of the wetlands. Some offered suggestions of how the money could be better spent. In conclusion, the Hamilton Board decided that they needed more information; seemed to agree that it was excessive.!

This petition was created to stop the unnecessary development of dam site 21. It has NOTHING TO DO WITH FRACKING OR MINERAL RIGHTS. While we appreciate your support, we ask that signers do not reference fracking. Thanks!
