This time was Leo Messi's turn. Thousands of Iranian Facebook users have flooded Leo Messi's official Facebook page with comments after Argentina and Iran were drawn in Group F of 2014 World Cup. The content of the comments are mostly jokes, offensive words, and non-relevant. There are, however, a few friendly or apology comments. After the incident got reported by several News agencies around the world, a new wave of apology and supportive comments appeared on Leo Messi’s page.
This is not the first time such a thing is happening. I know this because I am Iranian! It’s embarrassing to mention other examples, yet it’s foolish to deny them. While the majority of Iranians are disgusted by such actions and worry about the international reflection of them, the existence of the trouble-making minority is every Iranian’s responsibility.
This petition is NOT to disclaim that people who take these actions are not “real” Iranians, whatever that might mean! This petition is to claim that every Iranian feels responsible and takes whatever steps necessary to avoid similar incidents in the future.
Please sign this petition to show that:
- If you are an Iranian, you will not do an act of flooding or put any offensive content on Facebook; you will discourage your friends and acquaintances from such actions, and you will do whatever you can to avoid such things to repeat. If you care enough to loath the action, you should care enough to stop it!
- If you are not Iranian, you support this effort of Iranians to accept the fact and fix the problem.
