"Don't Put a Price Tag on a Second Chance, Stop the Border Security and Enforcement Act Now!

For centuries, immigrants have been leaving their home countries and coming to the United States with the hope that they will have better lives. It is a gamble that usually pays off since many immigrants go on to lead happy and successful lives in America, and this proves that the idea of the American dream can be attained by anyone. This trend continues today and in 2016, 990,553 visas were approved and issued to immigrants that were coming into America legally in order to start a new life (www.ncsl.org). They came over for a variety of reasons, which includes employment, to be with family members in America, or they are refugees escaping the atrocities that are going on within their own countries. However, immigration is not always seen as a positive trend, which is why policies such as the Border Security and Enforcement Act are in place to prevent people from coming to America, and they do that by forcing immigrants to pay $1,000,000 for a visa, which is a price almost no one can pay (H.R., 2724, 115th Cong., 2017). No one can put a price tag on a second chance, which is why with your help we can rise up and stop the Border Security and Enforcement Act now because everyone deserves a safe place to live. This is why I propose that this policy should not be in place and instead the price for a visa should stay the same at a very affordable $190 (www.ustraveldocs.com). This proposal supports the NASW Value of Social Justice because immigrants and refugees are an oppressed group of people that need to find create a new life for themselves in America, and this policy is preventing them from achieving that (NASW, 2015). Please help us now fight for the people that new a second chance.
