Support Proposed Temporary Art Installation "Neighborhood Emerging: The Adams Morgan Story"

NEIGHBORHOOD EMERGING proposes a temporary immersive documentary photo and video installation in Walter Pierce Park that invites viewers to step into the history of Adams Morgan through the interweaving of stories and voices of our multicultural neighborhood, past and present. The project will feature two primary components:

1. A temporary installation of a series of lightweight fabric printed wraps along the walkway through the park, including text and printed photographs that tell the story of the creation of the Adams Morgan neighborhood historically through present-day, centering themes of racial justice in our community. The visual installation would include QR codes by which viewers could use their cell phones to listen to short audio clips that tell the story of the community past and present through different voices.
2. Several pop-up screenings of an accompanying short film with two side-by-side video projections in the circular grassy area of the park, to be screened 3 times throughout the duration of the exhibit with an audience and community conversations.

WHEN: The temporary project would be installed at the end of August 2023, and would be presented throughout the month of September. The fence installation would remain during the month, and the pop-up screening events would take place on three different weekend days at scheduled times shared with the community

WHERE: The proposed site for the temporary public art project is in Walter Pierce Park, 2630 Adams Mill Rd NW, Washington, DC 20009.

THE PUBLIC IS INVITED TO ASK QUESTIONS AND PROVIDE FEEDBACK. The artist would like to design the project with the feedback of the community. The project is contingent on receiving grant funding from the DC Commission on the Arts & Humanities, which requires community signatures in support of proposed public art projects.
