Don't Endanger Journalists With Your Hateful Rhetoric, President Trump

Thanks to the president's ongoing angry rhetoric about new reporters, who Trump labels "the enemy of the American people," his supporters have come to shout at and threaten journalists, too.

On June 28, the nation saw five employees of the Capital Gazette murdered in a mass shooting. While it appears that the apprehended gunman has a longstanding vendetta against the newspaper, the tragedy should serve as a wake-up call that the White House needs to be more responsible with the message it sends about the lives of journalists.

Press Secretary Sarah Sanders was right when she said, "A violent attack on innocent journalists doing their job is an attack on every American." Now it's time for the White House to show it means that and drop its hateful B.S. about the media. Reporters are an essential component of a free and successful democracy, so stop demonizing them and perhaps putting their lives at risk.

We call on the president to immediately stop this undignified "shtick" before more journalists are murdered - the next time it could very well be in his name.
