Safety of Utah Roads

Everyone who drives in Utah knows how hard it can be to see the roads when the pavement is wet or slick with rain or snow. I have experienced this myself, being in an accident due to poor visibility. I believe that Utah needs to start getting reflective road lanes to help drivers feel more secure and safer driving in different weather conditions.

This experience helped me realize how dangerous it is to drive in bad weather and has helped me to be more cautious when driving and has helped me understand how much weather conditions can affect driving visibility. But we are not alone because everyone that drives in these conditions in Utah understands how dangerous this is and this can be fixed.

In the article "How do Weather events Impact the Roads?" by the Federal Highway Administration. They presented a chart of how different bad weather conditions caused accidents, fatalities and injuries within a eight year average. From 2010 to 2018 there were 860,286 crashes, 324,394 persons injured, and 4,050 deaths due to wet pavement. That is 70% of weather related crashes. Having reflective road lanes in Utah would benefit drivers by improving visibility and this would help preventing many of those accidents, fatalities, and injuries.

After my research I learned that there is a lot more to this topic than I thought. I learned how many people this really impacts in the United States and not just in Utah. I am very pleased to know that other people are trying to help fix this problem and prevent this from happening to any more innocent people. I hope to be able to spread more awareness on this topic with this petition. I believe getting reflective lanes in Utah would be very benefitial and everyone will be able to have better visibility.
