New York City Wants to Involuntarily Lock up People With Mental Illness

New York City Mayor Eric Adams is continuing his crusade against unhoused and mentally ill people throughout the city. Since he took office, Adams has instituted widespread clearing of homeless encampments, leaving thousands of unhoused folks vulnerable and without anywhere to sleep.

Now, the mayor is expanding on these cruel programs and saying that the city will begin involuntarily hospitalizing people who are mentally ill. This is an extremely cruel and ineffective way to support folks with mental illness!

Sign now to demand Mayor Eric Adams end involuntary hospitalization and instead focus on social programs that actually work!

Eric Adams is claiming that involuntary hospitalization is the "moral responsibility" of the city. But people with mental illness have time and time again identified programs that would actually help them: shelter and housing, healthcare, and food.

Giving people a safe place to eat and rest and access to free healthcare actually helps those with mental illness to care for themselves and get treatment. Siccing police on people with severe mental illness has never worked in the past, and it will only lead to violence and suffering now.

Tell Mayor Adams: end involuntary hospitalization and invest in effective, ethical programs to help folks with mental illness in New York City! Sign the petition now if you agree!
