Several reports were made to the Animal Rights Center in 2017 that some animals in Shiroyama Park, managed and operated by the Tateyama City council in Chiba Prefecture, Japan have been left in terrible situations. They contacted the city council in June 2017, visited the park and found that there were 2 x Japanese monkeys, 1 x cockatoo, 1 x fantail pigeon and 46 peacocks. The park decided not to obtain more animals, but has done nothing so far to improve the quality of their lives, despite the complaints made by some Japanese and the approaches and suggestions made by the Animal Rights Center. Here are the details about how they have been kept.

【cockatoo named Jun-chan】
Approximately 20 years old. An animal called "Itachi" which is similar to a fox attacked a peacock kept in a different place a few years ago. Since then this cockatoo has been kept in a very small cage as you can see in the picture. He has nothing to do but bite the metal. There is no space to fly and stretch his wings.

【2 x female monkeys】
Two monkeys have been raised in small old cages separately. They are given nothing but one wooden board for each of them to sleep and one log or tyre to play. The floor is concrete and they have lived in such bad conditions for over 18 years.

【1 x fantail pigeon】
There are no trees for it to rest.

I would like everyone to understand the situation of these animals and tell the mayor of Tateyama City, as well as the department in charge of these animals, to improve the park or shut it down. Several Olympic sports competitions will take place in Chiba for the Tokyo Olympics of 2020, and I can not ignore the treatment these animals get. Please check this link for further understanding.

Update #24 years ago
キバタンのジュンちゃんは、"アロハガーデンたてやま"に譲渡されました。ニホンザルについて館山市は、檻の改善計画を県に出すため準備中。しかし予算の確証はありません。

The cockatoo was finally moved to another facility called "Aloha garden Tateyama". Regarding the monkeys, the city council is planning to apply for the budget to renovate the enclosure, but there will be no guarantee at this stage. They are also seeking other facilities where the monkeys can move, but it would be very difficult based on their social behaviour.

Thank you for signing the petition. I called the department a week ago. The cockatoo was given a bit larger cage but is still always stuck there. Maybe there'll be a chance for him to be moved to a different facility. Regarding the monkeys no other places want to take them so far. Please keep sharing this to save these animals.Thank you.
