A.D.O.T forcing family of 4 to be homeless

Help Us Keep Our Home!!

Hello, My name is Joey, this is my 1-month-old daughter Ella, We live at 1431 w Frye rd, The Arizona Department of Transportation A.k.a (A.D.O.T) owns the house we live in, we rent from them. We recently received notice that they are evicting us based on false accusations made by a neighbor who lives about 1/4 mile away from us. The person complaining doest even live on the same dirt road as us and they don't see our home to get to theirs, they have been seen driving around our home just to see what we have going on there. We live out in a remote location next to state land on 3 sides, we have approx 2.5 acres of nothing but dirt land, We are basically being told (unofficially) that the ADOT managers, are concerned of this complainant, and they believe the risk of complaints making there way to the governor's office from this person is "TOO HIGH" therefore the department officials have made the decision that they would like to have us removed from the property in less than 30 days. (May 31st) Our lease indicates we can not have vehicles parked on any "unpaved surface"
The person complaining, to the ADOT officials is making a complaint that we have cars parked on the dirt that surrounds our property which would be a violation of our lease, since we are not allowed to make permanent changes to the property by adding concrete or asphalt, we added brick pavers instead and parked the cars on the brick pavers instead. Apparent the complaint said something diffrent.
Before we signed the lease we expressed to the landlord who is also an ADOT employee, that we are renting the property because we like that accommodation of space it offers, and they understood we would be bringing our registered, running, and insured vehicles to the property, they allowed us to move in. Fast forward 1.5 years and I currently have our vehicles parked on a brick-paved surface (not dirt) that surrounds that back wall of our home. We would normally have them in a garage however we are not allowed to make changes to our property per the lease, so we put down a non-permanent solution of brick pavers under the vehicles to satisfy our lease conditions of "all vehicles must be parked on a paved surface"
We have been advised that the person is complaining in such a manner they are making threats to contact the governor's office if action is not taken by ADOT officials.
1 week ending in April, We received an email from our landlord, to advise us we need to vacate the property because they don't want this person to make "complaints" (false complaints) to the governor's office.
(for some reason they feel these complaints are valid and a threat to ADOT upper management, and we have NO idea why this person is complaining 1/4 mile away about our vehicles)
We have gone over our lease terms with a lawyer and are assured we are not in violation of any of the terms.
We know ADOT plans to demolish the home to make way for the route 24 freeway that they plan to build in the upcoming years, so we know our time is limited and we were expecting to live out the home's unfortunate final journey to the ground. We know we were gonna have to leave once plans started moving up with the freeway but that's still at least 1-2 years away.

We are desperately seeking help from our community in efforts to have ADOT change their decision, and allow us to stay in the home during this pandemic. I have a newborn baby and a 6yr old little boy, homebound from daycare and school. I'm definitely not trying to have them out in the general public right now, in addition to that my income has been significantly impacted by the covid-19 pandemic.

We understand that we can be asked to leave at any time per our lease conditions, however, we feel that they are making us leave prematurely due to the person complaining. If we could prove to them that we are not an issue to our neighbors, they might allow us to stay, giving us more time to search for a home that we can purchase. We are asking everyone that supports this, to please sign this petition, to let the ADOT officials know that we are NOT a nuisance to our neighbors and neighborhood and that we are the opposite at which this complainant is painting the picture to our landlord of who we are. We are only asking for more time to allow us to find another home that we can move into once the pandemic is over or at least lightened up.

Once we move they plan to demolition the house or find new renters, to live out the remaining time of what's left of the home's fate.  We pay our rent in full, and sometimes 2-3 months in advance. We are on a shared well from a local resident and pay the water bill usually 350$ at a time, which is approx 6 months worth, we also pay for the street lights that light up the dirt road passing our home, I have maintained the property and paid another neighbor to help smooth out the dirt roads leading around the home and I have been making sure to upkeep the landscape around the home just to make sure we keep everyone happy. We have always been courteous and friendly to all of our neighbors. We really love the home we have right now, we love our neighborhood and our neighbors, and would like to find a home to buy in or around the area. I thank you for taking the time to read this, All of you have been so welcoming to us, it has been a real blessing to be here.

Even tho we haven't met or talked to one another I really feel a sense of community amongst all of you, it takes a certain special group of people to live out here amongst the wildlife of coyotes, cows, snakes, scorpions, tarantulas, prairie dogs, and hundreds of birds. The 3ft deep trenches/motes, of dirt roads when it rains, and the weekend sounds of the race cars as they fly around the track across located across the desert, and we really respect that, we enjoy all of it.

Please help us keep our home.

Thank You,

Joey

THANK YOU FOR ALL OF YOUR SUPPORT! We are profoundly happy, to inform you that ADOT, has heard your voices, seen the community support and has chosen to give us a workable and an effective time frame to find a new place to live. As for the person making the complaints, they will no longer have a say in what goes on, with our living situation. We still do have to move because of our agreement in place to move for the freeway being built, but that’s okay because it won’t be for several months.
