Protect Buzzards Not Pheasants

Natural England has issued a license for someone to kill up to ten buzzards "to prevent serious damage to young pheasants".

Pheasants are not a native species to the UK, and are bred solely for rich people to shoot for sport. According to 2011 figures, over 50 MILLION non-native gamebirds (pheasants, red-legged partridge) are released into the countryside EVERY YEAR, so that those in the game-shooting industry can shoot them for fun.

We also know that the buzzard is a native, protected species, still recovering (in some areas) from decades of illegal persecution.

I am sure buzzards eat far more small prey than they do pheasants.

Our ecological system is already in a fine balance and we do not need to upset this any further.

Please sign my petition to Natural England and the Department of Environment, Food & Rural Affairs to demand that they agree to give no further licences to anyone to kill buzzards. If enough people sign, they will see that the British public wants our buzzards to be protected.
