Disneyland, Stop Using Horse-Drawn Streetcars Now!

Forcing horses to pull heavy loads is extremely cruel, yet Disneyland does it every day when it sends horses carrying streetcars filled with people down Main St. U.S.A. The attraction has been part of Disneyland since the theme park first opened, but the time has come to shut it down.

Please sign this petition urging Disneyland to stop using horse-drawn streetcars now!

Horses are sensitive animals who become skittish around crowds and noise. Disneyland has to train its horses for months so they learn to remain calm amidst the chaos of the theme park. Horses are taken into corrals and bombarded with stimuli in order to teach them not to react. To learn patience, horses are forced to stand still while tied to a pole. But just because a horse can learn how to not physically react to stress, it doesn't mean it isn't experiencing stress.

Disneyland's horses are treated better than many other carriage horses -- working shorter hours and getting to live on a ranch during off-hours -- but the fact is, more and more people agree that animals should no longer be used for entertainment. Forcing animals to perform unnatural tasks and training them to not react to stress is just plain cruel.

Horses may be a huge part of Disneyland's history, but they don't have to be part Disneyland's future. Please sign this petition urging Disneyland to stand against cruelty and stop parading horse-drawn streetcars down Main St. U.S.A.
