Stop development at the Golf Club of South Carolina at Crickentree!

The Golf Club of South Carolina at Crickentree, located at 1084 Langford Road, Blythewood, SC, has been zoned Traditional Recreation Open Space District (TROS) since 2007. In December 2017 Richland County proposed an amendment to the Richland County Comprehensive Plan in the form of : Consolidation of Parks and Recreation and TROS districts as shown below:

3.2.2 (A)(1) Consolidated Districts
The proposed Land Preservation (LP) District consolidates the existing PR and TROS districts into a single district with a purpose more closely aligned with the Richland County Plan "Conservation" land use category. The PR and TROS districts are intended more for recreational uses like golf courses and athletic fields than for sensitive environmental areas. The PR district has not been applied in the county, and the TROS district has been applied only on golf courses. We recommend a base zoning district more broadly designed to protect open space in an
environmentally-sensitive manner. More specific standards designed to protect water quality would be implemented by the Water Resources Overlay District.

The Golf Club of South Carolina at Crickentree is a 183-acre green space including a 17 acre pond, with a golf course, driving range, club house and a sports store. It is a green recreational refuge that does not adversely affect traffic, does not add impact costs for schools, sewage fees, etc. and naturally absorbs storm-water. It is also natural habitat for a large number of wildlife.

On July 2018, E-Capitol an investment company located in Texas, announced that they initiated foreclosure proceedings on the golf course. The golf-course will be sold at an open bid, which E-capital expects to win and they further plan to build 460+ houses on the course.

We are concerned about traffic, storm water, protection of wetland areas, loss of green space, impact costs/fees for sewer systems, schools, police, fire department, etc. If The Golf Club of South Carolina at Crickentree is developed its benefits will be lost forever! It will not be replaced elsewhere in Richland County!!

The signatures on this petition affirm that we want both the Richland County planning commission and council members to honor their stated vision in their December 2017 DRAFT "We plan together Comprehensive Plan" and keep the Golf Club of South Carolina at Crickentree a GREEN Recreational Use property, and we ask that the Richland County planning commission and council members vote NO to any development of the Golf Club of South Carolina at Crickentree property.

We do hereby petition that the Richland County Planning Commission and Richland County Council:

Vote in opposition to any proposed RE-ZONING of the Golf Club of South Carolina at Crickentree for any purposes outlined outside of the TROS (Traditional Recreation Open Space) Provision namely for any residential development purposes.
Support and protect the provisions currently outlined in the TROS, as an essential "Open Air"/Green Space meriting no commercial development.
Adverse impacts to our community include if the requests in the petition are not ratified:

Reduction in property values
Increased traffic and morning/pm traffic gridlock
Loss of green space and natural, community setting/wildlife
Overcrowded schools and potential rezoning for Richland District 2 students
Elevated noise and air pollution

Thank you for your support.
