Stop the Expansion of the NJ Bear Hunt that Will Kill Hundeds of Cubs and Pregnant Females

The public comment period is now open to drastically expand the New Jersey Bear hunt. The proposal is to now provide unlimited hunting permits in a greatly expanded hunting area. Generally 6,000 hunters participate in these hunts. Image the carnage if too many of Pennsylvania's 175,000 Bear hunters participate? An additional six days will be added in October when all of the pregnant females will be foraging for food. If less than twenty percent of the newly inflated bear population estimate isn't killed, there's even an option to expand the hunt.

Bow hunters will now also be allowed to kill our Bears. Our deer endure horrific wound rates when shot with arrows. Imagine what the wound rate will be for Bears! Now, if you kill a Bear in the first hunt, you'll be eligible to kill another in December.

In the early seventies the NJ Fish & Wildlife virtually wiped out our entire Bear population. Don't let them make the same mistake again!

This over- reaction is a recipe for disaster for our Black Bears. Pease speak up so that we can try to prevent this slaughter before it becomes a reality!
