Over 1.3 million American sons and daughters have given their last full measure protecting the American way of life through military service. They each swore an oath, in their day, at their appointed time, to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic, and promised to bear true faith and allegiance to the same.
That oath cost them everything. All of their tomorrows for a nation's todays.
As proud American Gold Star Families, and ones who believed in their cause, we mothers and fathers, spouses, children, and siblings, from across America, gave this nation our most sacred treasure, laying his or her life on the alter of freedom…our journey ending with a brutal and bitter "knock on our door."
Our offering to this nation, though it stung to our core and broke our hearts with a pain that never leaves us, was given in good faith that our tremendous sacrifice would forever be honored and respected. That what we gave—that what our loved one gave, would mean something.
Amidst all other controversy, we have sustained in this nation a powerful reverence for those who have given their lives defending freedom, through military service, no matter our political affiliation.
With this understanding, one can only imagine the heartache and disdain Gold Star families feel as we watch members of our own congress demand boldly and without shame that socialism is the direction they want to take America. We are not ignorant of the knowledge that this shift will ultimately lead to a dangerous form of government, one contrary to the Constitution and Democratic Republic our founders established, and for which our family members gave their lives.
And now we proclaim boldly and without shame, "America will never be a socialist country."
Not on our watch.
I sign this proclamation today, binding my heart to other American Gold Star family members and declare boldly and without shame that I will stand firm in the fight to secure our Representative Republic and will do everything in my power to make sure America never becomes a Socialist country since this is NOT the form of government for which our loved ones—throughout history—gave their lives.
