For years now Facebook users have been subjected to psychological torment and assault by members of the Bulgarian Facebook vigilante hate group "Let's kill all stray dogs" /Да избием всички бездомни кучета/.
As the name suggests, those pitiful, sick, deranged individuals, self proclaiming themselves as "saviors" of the nation, have embarked on a "mission" to cleanse the streets from stray, abandoned and lost dogs. Not only do they brag about being personally involved in acts of killing, torture and mutilation, but they actively encourage and advise others how to do the same. Discussions go on and on about which the best weapon is for killing street dogs, the best ammunition, how to cut them with knife, how to prepare poisonous cocktails, how to put needles, safety pins, fishing hooks in their meals, how to burn them, hunt them, hurt them, trap them, run them over, falsely report them for being aggressive, etc. And it doesn't stop there. Anyone who dares to post a comment, disapproving such CRIMINAL behavior, becomes target of verbal abuse, mockery and threats. Despite numerous complaints by concerned citizens and animal advocates, nothing has been done by the Facebook administration to close the group or/and report its members to Interpol and other crime prevention institutions. Bulgaria has its laws in place. In 2008 the Animal Welfare Act was passed in parliament, according to which all stray animals should be trapped, neutered and RETURNED /TNR/ to their original habitat. Those animals should be under the care and protection of local municipalities, NGO-s and individual citizens. According to the same piece of legislation it is illegal to cause pain, stress and suffering to an animal. Furthermore, according to the Bulgarian Penal Code, art. 325b "Killing or causing grievous bodily harm to a vertebrate animal" is a FELONY, punishable by imprisonment for up to 3 years".
Violent acts toward animals have long been recognized as indicators of a dangerous psychopathy that does not confine itself to animals. Studies have now convinced sociologists, lawmakers, and the courts that acts of cruelty toward animals deserve our attention. They can be the first sign of a violent pathology that includes human victims.
You can see snapshots of some comments / in Bulgarian/ within the group here:
We, the undersigned, demand the immediate closure and the harshest penalties for the most "proactive" members of the above mentioned group.
Furthermore we demand that those members be investigated for other related crimes, such as child abuse, wife battering, rape etc.
Furthermore we demand that Facebook administrators should display CLEAR WARNINGS that promoting animal abuse will not be tolerated and will be reported to the police and prosecuted.
