Justice for Jack

On the afternoon of February 3rd, Bailey let Jack (trained black lab) out of his pen to clean it and let him play a little. She went inside, with the back door open, to get him and Riley (his doggie play mate) some food. Before Bailey could get their bowls cleaned and filled, she heard multiple, she recalls 7, shots fired. She ran to the back door and called Jack out of instinct, he didn't come. She ran to and out the front door, screaming for Jack, only to find him staggering from across the highway back into their yard. He then collapsed at her feet, dead of a gunshot wound by the neighbor. In hysterics, she calls me (her sister-in-law) to telling me that he's been shot, and he's dead. All the while, the neighbors NEXT DOOR are screaming that he killed their chicken, yet Jack came from across the highway, not from their yard!
Upon the arrival of the police and through their investigation, there was NO DEAD CHICKEN!!!!!! Now, the chicken did have feathers missing, but was not dead. Also, these chickens free-range into all of the neighbors yards. We took him to the vet afterwards for x-rays, it was confirmed that he was shot twice. Neighbors claim they shot him with a 22, but the vet says in her professional opinion, he was shot with a shotgun.

Jack has never been a dog to attack other animals, and has been a trained duck dog his ENTIRE life. He was obedient, gentle, and playful!

In the past month that Bailey has lived at this location, Riley has ran to these neighbors yards. In which Bailey retrieves her from the daughter, and has informed them of the dogs names, their easy temperaments, and to let her know if they get out or have any issues with the dogs, just let her know. She has never had any complaints or issues.

Bailey has NEVER been contacted about an issue with either of her dogs chasing or harming these chickens. The neighbors claim Jack attacked the chicken 2 times before they shot him, but Bailey didn't have time to get anything done inside before hearing the gunshots. So there was no time for Jack to attack this chicken that many times.

We want #JusticForJack. We want the neighbors to pay for the loss of my brother's best friend, his fiancé's protector, and his beloved hunting buddy. There is no amount of money or apologies that will ever replace Jack, but they should be reprimanded!
The local authorities state nothing can be done because the neighbors claim that Jack was in their yard and they were defending their chicken.

Please help us push for punishment for the people who took Jack from us!!!
