Some schools have found a solution to their budget woes by cutting back to a four-day school week. The four-day week cuts the costs of transportation and lowers the funds needed to provide food service for students. Watch your school’s utility bills go down when the school switches to a four-day week. It’s one entire day your school doesn’t have to pay for lighting or electricity for running printers, copiers and computers. Cut on heating expenses and minimize the energy necessary for bringing your cold school building up to a comfortable, warmer level for the students by shortening the school week

According to data collected by NCSL:

-Twenty-one states currently have school districts (with public schools) operating on a four-day week.

These states include: Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Idaho, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Nevada, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Wisconsin and Wyoming.

There are more than 120 school districts that host four-day school week programs.

Over a third of Colorado’s school districts are on a four day school week.

In Colorado they tested the students that went to a four day school week vs. those that to a five day school week. The students that had a four day school week had a higher academic gain.
