The shelter director at Randolph County animal shelter in North Carolina chooses to authorize daily euthanasia's that do not follow state and agricultural laws and requirements to properly care for the animals that are brought into the shelter. He has repeatedly told citizens that his job is to protect the public from rabies and dangerous dogs, not protect companion animals from neglect and cruelty. Protocols are not posted and are arbitrarily followed, fees are waived by the shelter manager without cause, requirements to reclaim dogs change daily, zero effort is made to post found animals online and volunteers have been denied the permission to do so on their own time. Rescue groups have been denied the ability to pull a dog and save lives. The use of power is being gravely misused and it is costing innocent animals their lives. A person who lacks compassion for animals simply does not belong in this position.
This is Harley's story Please sign this petition to ask that Randolph County Commissioners consider removing the animal shelter and animal control away from the Department of Health and under the supervision of the sheriff's department so that sworn law enforcement officers have the duty of enforcing laws concerning animal welfare fairly and compassionately in an effort to prevent the unnecessary euthanasia of beloved companion animals like Harley. Our animal shelter currently operates under an antiquated system that recognizes animals only as property with minimal value and does not recognize the enormous quality of life that companion animals provide. They deserve better from our shelter management and we deserve better from our government officials.
