Equal Justice For Gene Broadnax

Gene Broadnax has been Incarcerated in the North Carolina prison system for over 20 years, simply because the superior court judges in Rockingham County,NC refuse to grant him a new trial as state law requires. In
1999 Gene Broadnax protecting his own life, killed a man while acting in self-defense.Gene Broadnax went to trial
and presented his case of self defense. However, the trial
judge in his final mandate to the jury failed to inform the
jury that " Based on the evidence presented you may find Gene Broadnax Not Guilty by reason of self-defense." Under North Carolina Law this omission constitutes prejudicial error and a new trial must be granted.see State v.Dooley,285 N.C.158(1974);State v.
Williams,154 N.C. App.496(2002). Gene Broadnax has filed numerous motions for a new trial showing by his trial transcripts the omission of his trial judge but all have been denied.Because of this omission the jury was
Prevented from considering his evidence and the potential verdict of not guilty by reason of self-defense.This is not justice at all. This law is suppose to be applied to everyone equally but the judges are picking and choosing who they apply it to.Please sign this petition to help us in our struggle to get a new trial for
    Gene Broadnax!!! Thank You!!!
