Please sign and share this petition in an effort to get the FDA to stop putting antibiotics in their animal feed that presents great concern and health issues for humans. The antibiotics are thought to promote weight gain in the animals but at the same time, humans are getting sick from eating the "contaminated" meat.

It seems that the main concern in feeding animals is to fatten them up to make them more enticing for the consumer. However, it does not seem to matter what they are fed and how it will affect those purchasing and eating the meat. Even the U. S. Food and Drug Administration is faulty in approving feed that has been provided additives of penicillin and some tetracycline's for chickens, cows and pigs, even if they are not sick.

These types of feeds are not banned because they are used to promote weight gain in animals can foster "superbugs," exposing humans who contact or eat the animals to antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Initially, the FDA has placed limits on animal feed containing the antibiotics in an effort to eventually phase out antibiotics in animal feed, unless medically necessary.

Circuit Judge Gerard Lynch said the FDA deserved deference, even if agency officials had scientific concern about the feed's safety. "While the agency regards the indiscriminate and extensive use of such drugs in animal feed as threatening, it does not necessarily believe that the administration of antibiotics to animals in their feed is inherently dangerous to human health." The FDA was not arbitrary or capricious in encouraging what the agency has called "judicious" use of the feed, rather than seeking to withdraw approval through a "protracted administrative process and likely litigation."

Despite the efforts of the FDA to limit the use of antibiotics in animal feed, they are still hesitant on banning the use of these additive for otherwise healthy animals. A judge states that the FDA "openly declared that a particular animal drug is unsafe, but then refused to withdraw approval." People consuming animal products that have been eating contaminated feed have been contracting illnesses as a result. Such feed for the chickens, cows and pigs with additives of penicillin and some tetracycline is not safe for the animals or the consumer.

U. S. Food & Drug Administration - Although you have made some attempts to limit additives of penicillin and some tetracycline's in animal feed, these products are still used to feed cows, chickens and pigs. In the long run, these additives are causing grave health in the animals and the consumers who eat such contaminated meats. Please require that all animals be fed healthy, all natural diets with no additives of additives of penicillin and some tetracycline for their health and well-being along with those who consume meat products. Ban the use of antibiotics of any type in animal feed!
