Nine Million Kids Need You — Demand Congress Reauthorize the Children’s Health Insurance Program

On Saturday September 30, the GOP-led Congress allowed the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) to expire. The program provides access to health care for nine million American children.

Now GOP leaders are pushing a proposal to fund this essential program that links nine million American children to healthcare... with cuts to other health care spending.

We have to stop these misguided politicians and ensure that no American in need of health care is forced to pay the price for the GOP’s moral and political failure to renew CHIP.
Renewing the program — which has always enjoyed broad bipartisan support — should have been an easy call for Republican leaders. In the 15 years following its establishment, CHIP reduced the number of uninsured children in America by 50 percent and reduced hospitalizations and child deaths from illness and injury.

Instead, GOP lawmakers ignored the looming Sept. 30 deadline to reauthorize CHIP, instead launching effort after failing, time-consuming effort to repeal the Affordable Care Act.

Congress needs to reauthorize the Children’s Health Insurance Program — and they need to do it without reducing health care access for other Americans in need. Please sign this petition right now.
