Lenoir County Injustices

This petition is based upon several young men that have been held in jail under false pretenses. Several young men are being held against their will without the proper evidence to keep them in jail.

There is one case where a young man is being held in jail because of a murder case that happened three years ago. The case started March 2, 2016, and has been going on since then. Shikeem Ham was one of the few young men who was placed in jail behind this case. Before being arrested, Shikeem was completing his last semester in college at Shaw University. He was placed in jail December 2018 for conspiracy. One of the suspects that was involved in the case stated that this young man made a phone call to outside people and gave gas money to a suspect to flee from Kinston, NC after the crime was committed. The evidence about the phone call was dismissed after phone records were looked through and there is no proven evidence that this young man gave anyone gas money. He is still sitting in jail a year later behind the same charges and no evidence. This young man does not deserve to still be sitting in jail behind this case. This young man is being held against his free will. The federal offense for this case is "Color of Law."

We are demanding that Lenoir County Courthouse and District Attorneys who are using their powers to hold this young man in jail look further into the case and look at all the evidence that is presented. This young man deserves a fair chance through this case and not be held for false accusations.
