Petition To Remove Retriever Towing From Service at Sofi At Murrayhill

Retriever towing has been an unnecessarily predatory presence at Sofi MurrayHill for too long. Parking control is necessary to prevent abuse of our limited parking, but this company has repeatedly overstepped their bounds and makes a point of sneaking in at night to extort residents. Their towing practices are unethical, many of us could list examples such as multiple eyewitness accounts of unsecured vehicles being hauled out of the complex at speeds in excess of 20 mph over speed-bumps. The most notable offense I can recall so far was when one of our handicapped neighbors had her car taken for parking in a handicapped spot without a handicapped placard when in fact she did have one in plain sight in the vehicle. Multiple neighbors tried to show the tow truck driver the visible placard but he refused to listen and took her only means of transportation knowing she had a valid placard. Their practice of blanketing the complex at night with chalk marks on the ground and towing vehicles at 25 hrs or less is questionable and ultimately provides little concrete proof of parking violation due to an ability to modify/add marks at will. I’m sure many of us have witnessed older cars with Notices on their windows for over a week, so why is it that some cars are towed at just over 24hrs and others that may be considered less valuable are left for such extended lengths of time? This company is not here providing a valuable service, they are here preying on residents and their guests for financial profit and the aim of this petition is to eradicate Retriever Towing permanently from this complex.
