Ban Residential Fireworks In Corner Brook

After the disheartening news of so many dogs not only running away from their homes but slipping out of their leads in fear of the firing of fireworks within residential neighbourhoods, I have taken it upon myself to start a petition to see what the general public’s overall opinion is within Corner Brook and the immediate surrounding area.

With so many firings taking place well after the 10 pm noise bylaw regulations, I don’t understand if it is lack of stated rules or ignorance of such regulations by the general public who are participating in backyard/front yard fireworks displays.

To be clear, I do not want to see a complete ban of fireworks in my city. I merely want to see this act more regulated and strictly enforced. Perhaps designated “firing” areas in town would be an appropriate solution - away from highly populated residential neighbourhoods. Whatever the solution, if a better management proposal cannot be established, then I would like to see a ban on the general public’s allowance of using fireworks.

Not only are fireworks a source of significant stress to our pets, but they also disrupt the normal behaviour of birds taking shelter for the night, nocturnal species and they impact the internal clock of numerous other wildlife groups as well.
