It's 2018, and not granting a divorce is obscene. How is it possible that the Supreme Court declined Tini Owens' request to divorce her unloving, troubling husband when she is unable to continue living with him?
Because the divorce was requested without a serious cause (adultery, unreasonable behaviour or desertion are the only options), Tini has no choice but to remain married to her husband for the next five years, living apart, to obtain her divorce.
This is unacceptable. We are in the 21st century and marriage is a contract that has to be freely annulled by any of the parties involved.
The law must be changed. People should be able to divorce whenever they see fit, for whatever reason they believe is important enough. Any other option should be considered as a breach of basic human rights!
