Petition: Require Search Engines to Implement Right to be Forgotten in the United States

The Goal: To give internet users in the US the right to have their personal information removed from search engines upon request.

The Problem: People across Europe who have existing negative information online are given the opportunity to clear their names and start fresh by having the links to those information removed from search engines. Americans do not have this power, which means all the photos, videos, and all other data that we share online, good or bad, will remain searchable online. Businesses which were given unfair reviews will have to live with them as well.

The Solution: Just like in Europe, search engines must bring the right to be forgotten in the United States in order to correct outdated, misleading, and irrelevant information about people and businesses. We may all have done things in the past that we find shameful, but that doesn’t mean that we have not learned and have not strived to correct those mistakes. Before internet was born, people simply forget what happened in the past and judge people according to their present actions, values, and achievements. There’s no reason why we should let the internet strip that right away.

Dedicated in providing individuals and businesses with professional, online reputation management help, The Reputation Management Company firmly believes that the right to be forgotten can restore what we once had – the right to have a not-so-perfect past, and to rise from it.
