UK Home Office: Stop Humiliating LGBT Asylum Seekers!

A Home Office document recently leaked to The Observer reveals invasive, embarrassing questions used to interview gay, lesbian and bisexual asylum seekers, despite regulations that clearly state this line of questioning is unacceptable. One interview reveals that over a five hour period, a male asylum seeker was asked, "What is it about men's backsides that attracts you?" and "What is it about the way men walk that turns you on?"

The Home Office is left unsatisfied and refuses to believe asylum seekers even after they answer the embarrassing questions. In one shocking example, a 30-year-old Ugandan woman who was raped and identifies as lesbian is being deported because she's been single for five years. She has been unable to develop a relationship with a woman because her rape left her traumatized. When she returns to Uganda, she expects to be attacked and stoned. Last year, a Ugandan woman was killed following her deportation.

The sexual preferences and consentual activities of asylum seekers are nobody's business, and have nothing to do with how they will behave publicly in the UK. Please sign the petition to urge the UK Home Office to stop humiliating LGBT asylum seekers!

As you know, a Home Office document recently leaked to The Observer reveals invasive, embarrassing questions used to interview gay, lesbian and bisexual asylum seekers, despite regulations that clearly state this line of questioning is unacceptable. One interview reveals that over a five hour period, a male asylum seeker was asked, "What is it about men's backsides that attracts you?" and "What is it about the way men walk that turns you on?"

We understand that the Home Office is still unsatisfied after asylum seekers answer these questions.

We urge you to stop humiliating LGBT asylum seekers and punishing them for their romantic relationships or lack thereof. Thank you for taking the time to read and consider our petition.
