Support Sen. Schumer: Ban Toxic Ingredient from Cosmetics!

Many of your shampoos, waxes, and oils contain 1,4-dioxane - about 46% of all in the U.S., according to the Environmental Working Group - but you may not know it.

The chemical can severely pollute water sources, and poses significant risk to human health. Yet it remains unregulated. Worse, it's not even required to be put on labels. Senator Schumer has suggested that the FDA mandate a removal of the contaminant. Given its alarming affect on public health and water sources, it is time we rally behind Senator Schumer and support the ban of 1,4-dioxane.

Long-term exposure to 1,4-dioxane can cause kidney and lung damage, but even in the short term, eye/nose/throat harm is common. Environmental Working Group gave the contaminate an 8 on their ingredient score list, with the chemical's overall hazard ranked between medium and high. 1,4-dioxane can also cause ecological damage through polluting waterways, which is very common. 71% of water suppliers that were tested on Long Island showed trace amounts of the chemical.

In the reckless, de-regulatory age of Donald Trump, citizens must stand united and demand action on this important public health and environmental issues. Let your voice be heard: tell the FDA to ban 1,4-dioxane now!
