Stop the Klein Road Gas Station

The residents of Legend Point, Augustus Pass, and Lonesome Dove communities do not want a gas station at the Klein Road and Legend Pond intersection. The proposed 10,000 square foot gas station, convenience store, car wash, and repair center will be directly behind the residential homes of the Legend Point community and across the street from the Lonesome Dove and Augustus Pass community entrance playground where a lot of children play. We feel this type of business (selling fuel, beer and wine, and being open late hours) will be a safety and pollution/environmental concern for our children and adult residents. Many residents from Legend Point, Augustus Pass, and Lonesome Dove walk, run, and bike in this area. This business will increase traffic, attract additional transients to the area, will encourage loitering, increase crime, and will bring chemical, noise, light, and trash pollution to our neighborhood. There are already several fueling stations in the near vicinity, and there is no need for more gas pollution! The City of New Braunfels is already planning to increase Klein Road from a two to four lane road and we don't feel our safety is being taken into account. Klein Road is already a dangerous one with speeding and increased traffic to both the elementary and middle school and a traffic light may be necessary. It is becoming increasingly more difficult to leave our respected community's due to the school traffic already. If drivers have to queue up any further, anyone leaving Legend Point, Augustus Pass, or Lonesome Dove will have to rely on a driver in line already to let them in as there is no traffic light there. We understand the zoning for the commercial land on Klein Road is general retail/mixed use allows for a gas station and convenience store, but the petition signers respectfully request that the City limit the zoning to exclude fueling stations and/or that the prospective land buyer and business owner (NBL 300 Group LTD and Select Stop 2 Holding LLC) reconsider the business he wants to build. The residents of Legend Point, Augustus Pass, Lonesome Dove, and nearby communities, and our supporters who sign this petition would like a more resident-friendly business and are willing to negotiate. For instance, if the owner would consider a convenience store that also serves fresh food but doesn't stay open twenty four hours a day, or a coffee/sandwich shop (instead of or in addition to). This type of upscale convenience store will better encourage residents' business and will discourage loitering.
