The programme "Blue Planet" has brought to light the enormous issue of plastic pollution in our oceans, which kills millions of marine wildlife. Single-use plastic is among the worst things for the environment, along with the meat and dairy industries and the transport sector.
Some people are now choosing to reduce or give up single-use plastic, using shampoo bars, wooden toothbrushes, plastic-free toothpaste, plastic-free soap, reusable water bottles and doing plastic-free grocery shopping. However, the latter is not made any easier by the fact that most supermarket fruit and veg is still coated with plastic packaging! In a world whose oceans are choking with plastic so much so that even the UK Government has acted by banning the sale of single-use plastic straws, why are supermarkets still selling most of their packaged fruit and veg in single-use plastic packaging, when more eco-friendly, biodegradable alternatives exist?
We say "We want UK supermarkets to commit to 100% plastic-free, 100% biodegradable materials for the packaging of their fruits and veg, RIGHT NOW!!!! We will be far more likely to shop at supermarkets that do this in the imminent future!!!! We want to see blueberries, broccoli and beetroots, apples and avocados, pears, plums and peppers, carrots and cantaloupes, melons, and mangoes 🥭 , sweet potatoes and swedes, lychees, lemons and limes, and ALL other fruit and veg without plastic packaging and with only 100% plastic-free and 100% biodegradable packaging RIGHT NOW!!!!!"
Sainsbury's, Tesco, ASDA, Morrison's and Co-op would all like to consider themselves ethical and sustainable, but they could be even more eco-friendly if they simply changed the packaging with their fruit and veg to something greener and more eco-friendly than plastic!!!
Thank you 😊 🙏🏾 ☺️.
Best Wishes to all,
Have the best day and night ever!
