Petition to the State of Massachusetts to release the approved funds for the Taylor Avenue Reconstruction Project

This petition is a request for the State of Massachusetts to release the funds, already included in the current bond bill, for the Taylor Avenue Reconstruction Project.

The Taylor Avenue Reconstruction Project in Plymouth, Ma. has been delayed for years due to the state's refusal to release the funds for this project.  These repeated delays have turned a road in desperate need of repair into a safety hazard. These delays have caused:

  • Drainage System experiencing total failure
  • Flooding of the street
  • Private property damage
  • Residents unable to access their homes
  • Taylor Avenue Bridge, which had weight limitations imposed in 2008, has continued to degrade and it is only a matter of time before a major incident occurs

Whatever reasons that contribute to this continued delay pale in comparison to the potential danger that continued delays may cause. It is simply unfair to put tax payers’ homes, visitors and local businesses at risk on a daily basis as this financial volley is played out at the State House.

Taylor Avenue provides access to the second largest public beach in Plymouth which includes a large residential population and a vibrant tourist destination. Continued delays will put residents, tourists, local businesses and the tax revenue generated from these groups at significant risk. We ask that the funds for the Taylor Avenue Project be released immediately to remediate this situation and for the safety of the residents, tourists and local businesses.
