Community Against Budget Cuts, Support our Teachers, Now!

Highland Park Board of Education is making budget cuts and as a result has decided to discontinue the Family Consumer Science Department (Baking 101, Nutrition and Foods, Child Development, and Fashion Design) and let go of 6 paraprofessionals. With the loss of the Family Consumer Science Department, Highland Park High School will be losing one of its 5 African American teachers, Ms. Teri Mitchell. Not only will some students lose a teacher they can talk to in confidence but all students will miss out on the opportunity to take classes that could shape them for the rest of their lives. I urge you to sign this petition in support of the 6 paraprofessionals and The Family Consumer Science Department. The next Board of Ed meeting is on Monday, March 25th (Bartle Elementary School at 7:45pm)where you can express your opinion in open forum. If you cannot make the meeting, I would be more than willing to read any letters to the board on your behalf. Thank you in advanced for your support.
