Oppose Maund’s Proposed 4-level Parking Garage
Charles Maund Volkswagen is building a massive 4-level parking garage at the corner of Burnet Road and Pegram Avenue. The size, location, and use of this parking garage will erode our quality of life and degrade the character of our neighborhood.
Residents go out of their way to avoid this intersection. Maund’s pedestrian and vehicular traffic has created a traffic hazard. Long-standing disturbances include: Cars parked on both sides of the street, a steady stream of delivery trucks, loaded 18-wheeler transport trucks idling on neighborhood streets and using neighborhood streets to exit after delivery, frequent (and often reckless) test drives through the neighborhood, car deliveries at 4 a.m. and noise throughout the day.
Maund’s day-to-day operations spill outside its property and are incompatible with our neighborhood. The proposed garage will be only 25 ft. from homes, and will cause light, heat, and noise pollution to nearby residents. Additional Maund inventory means more traffic and a greater threat to public safety.
We must have a voice in setting commercial standards that are compatible with residential family life. The mega-car-lot culture does not improve or enhance the future of Burnet Road and is a senseless choice as Austin re-examines our Land Development Code. Maund should concede that a non-residential freeway location is a better fit for their business expansion than our neighborhood.
We rely on our city officials to preserve our neighborhoods and protect our quality of life. Let the City of Austin and Maund Volkswagen hear from you.
