Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, every single family has been affected in one form or way.
Current scenarios parents are going through:
- a parent/s being furloughed or laid off
- family going through financial hardship due to COVID-19
- parents who are frontliners that are risk to exposure
- finding alternative caregiver to watch the child while parents are working. Typically an additional cost to the household.
We are concerned that we (parents of Scripps Montessori School) are being asked to pay full tuition despite the circumstances. We do acknowledge and understand that the teachers should be compensated for their hard work, but we are also asking for some consideration.
Our full tuition is given with expectations of in classroom learning, hands on activities, social interaction, classroom manipulatives, office and art supplies, and the expertise of a lead classroom teacher and assistant.
The online learning classroom that's been explained is a substitute for our children's typical daily education. Therefore our tuition should reflect this compensation.
Our children's education in person cannot be substituted for an online experience.
We ask for a reduced tuition fee until the normal situation resumes and when shelter in place orders has been lifted.
