The intersection of Ponce De Leon Blvd./SR98 and Citrus Way/SR491 is an extremely busy and dangerous intersection in Hernando County, Fl. SR98 is a truck route with a speed limit of 60mph with thousands of large heavily loaded trucks that utilize the route. There are also thousands of cars,trucks and motorcycles that use SR98 and or SR491 to go to and from work, church, and school.
In less than one year, seven innocent lives have been lost at this intersection. On July 22, 2016 a young married couple were killed in a horrific accident. At the same spot, five men were killed less than a year before. There are at least 3 to 5 - if not more- "close calls" every day of the week. As people say "its just a matter of time before someone else is killed."
We can blame it on impatience, not paying attention, etc.. but the fact is people are being killed, and it could be prevented by installing traffic lights NOT just blinking lights.
What is it going to take to justify spending the money to install the MUCH NEEDED traffic lights. A school bus full of kids being killed?
