State financed Spanish public TV station RTVE is planning to screen a bullfighting festival on September 5, 2012, after six years of not showing bullfights. The fighting is planned to air live at 6PM, during a 5PM-8PM children's viewing period when violent images are supposed to be banned from TV.
Most bulls are killed during or after the bullfights, and bulls often run into and injure horses ridden by cavalieros. A 2010 poll in El Pais, a leading Spanish daily, shows that 60 percent of respondents oppose bullfighting.
RTVE should not broadcast this violent sport after they have already stopped. It is particularly inappropriate to show these fights, which show animals getting killed and injured, during a children's viewing period. Please sign the petition to urge RTVE to stop broadcasting bullfights in the future.
To: Spanish Radio and Television Corporation
It has come to our attention that state financed Spanish public TV station RTVE is planning to screen a bullfighting festival on September 5, 2012, after six years of not showing bullfights. We understand that the fighting is planned to air live at 6PM, during a 5PM-8PM children's viewing period when violent images are supposed to be banned from TV.
As you know, most bulls are killed during or after the bullfights, and bulls often run into and injure horses ridden by cavalieros. A 2010 poll in El Pais, a leading Spanish daily, shows that 60 percent of respondents oppose bullfighting.
We strongly believe that RTVE should not broadcast this violent sport after they have already stopped. It is particularly inappropriate to show these fights, which show animals getting killed and injured, during a children's viewing period. We respectfully urge you to stop broadcasting bullfights in the future. Thank you for taking the time to read and consider our petition.
