This is a petition to seek JUSTICE for the medical malpractice of Gianna Mathis and the women of Lakin Correctional Facility in West Virginia. This petition is authored by Gigi's daughter, Domonique, and Sabrina, who spent 5 years with Gigi in Lakin.
For years, Gigi complained to us of stomach issues that went untreated and ignored by Lakin Correctional Facility. She died on Monday, October 10, 2016.
Gigi was diagnosed with cancer two years ago and needed a new kidney. Yet jail officials never contacted Domonique, who would have been willing to donate one. Had Gigi received the proper care she deserved and needed, she would still be with us today.

Gigi had made parole a month before and should've been at home with her family, but the facility failed to call her daughter to come pick her up.
We believe Gigi's medical problems may be linked to water contaminated by DuPont's chemical C-8, which is used to make nonstick coating, commonly known as Teflon. There are multiple reports of people suffering from cancer due to water DuPont contaminated. In July, a man was awarded $5.1M after a jury found DuPont was responsible for his cancer after leaking C-8 into the Ohio River, which runs into West Virginia.
While Sabrina was at Lakin, a number of women died from cancer and others now suffer serious health issues, including Sabrina herself.
There are other issues at Lakin that evidence a lack of care for inmates: A girl was severely beat and spent years in segregation for refusing to speak. Women have been denied hygiene products. Women were subjected to sexual harassment from male employees (some have been fired for it).
An investigation needs to be brought against Lakin, as too many women have died due to lack of medical care and the fact that too many have ended up with cancer after being at this facility. Please sign and help us get JUSTICE. #LetsRock
