Stop Wasteful Use of Packaging Materials, and Reuse Packaging Materials where Possible

So many companies use packaging materials to deliver their products, understandably, but often too much packaging material is used, plastic is used that is not recyclable, and many companies I have approached to take back their boxes and polystyrene boxes and packaging materials say, "We don't want it back". Why? It ends up in landfills, when it is perfectly reusable. Surely all companies should be focusing on reusable packaging materials, recyclable packaging materials, and taking back boxes and containers for reuse wherever possible.
