Please Help Tracey Reid, the owner of Lionheart reach $3500 by 11/25 Let's #SaveLionheart and keep this Black owned business on Nostrand Ave In #CrownHeights

Background: For over 15 years, Lionheart Natural Herbs & Spices, has been a cultural fixture in the Crown Heights business community. Owned by Tracey Reid, a Caribbean single mom, Lionheart sells a host of Afrocentric products, from herbs and spices to clothing and art. Now with the rapid gentrification of Crown Heights, her landlord, Frank Morris is trying to evict Ms. Reid, from her 676 Nostrand Avenue location.

Historically, Frank Morris has been a bad landlord. When Ms. Reid signed her lease in July 2001, she did not know that building had no heat and that there were issues with the plumbing. During the her first winter, in January 2002, the lack of heat in the building resulted in the pipes in the bathroom icing over and bursting. Frank Morris tried to convince Tracey Reid that she had damaged his pipes. As commerical tenant Tracey Reid could not afford to make these extensive repairs to Morris' commerical property. So for the last 16 years, Tracey Reid, the owner of Lionheart has been forced to use the restroom at local bars and supermarkets.

Fed-up with the lack of a working toilet and lack of heat and hot water, Ms. Reid withheld rent from Frank Morris. Because of this dispute, the landlord has not offered Ms. Reid a lease since 2008. These problems have significantly impacted Reid's business. Ceiling leaks led to damaged copper bracelets and other products. She could not hire a staff because of the lack heat and a working toilet at the store. Not having a lease disqualified her from small business loans that would allow Lionheart to grow.

And now, on October 6th, Frank Morris is attempting to evict Ms. Reid and her business from 676 Nostrand Avenue. Tracey Reid and Lionheart Natural Herbs and Spices needs our support to keep Lionheart Natural Herbs and Spices at 676 Nostrand Avenue.

PACK THE COURT: Friday, October 6th, 141 Livingston (Room 603), 10:30 a.m.
